  • Thanks for this wonderful question, Mayer.
  • 8
  • "Awareness" and "consciousness" share somewhat similar definitions.
  • 9
  • The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "awareness" as having knowledge and understanding that something is happening or exists.
  • 10
  • And it defines "consciousness" as being aware of things around you or something within oneself.
  • 11

  • 12
  • Let's look at each one more closely.
  • 13
  • "Awareness" is a noun that comes from the adjective "aware."

  • 18
  • This is one of the meanings that is shared with "consciousness."
  • 19
  • World Pangolin Day is celebrated on February 18th to raise more awareness for these animals.
  • 20
  • Let's move on to "consciousness."
  • 21
  • "Consciousness" is a noun that has several meanings.
  • 22
  • It comes from the adjective "conscious."
  • 23
  • When you are "conscious," you are awake and can think and make decisions for yourself.
  • 24
  • When you are asleep, you are not conscious.
  • 25
  • Your "consciousness" is your physical and mental state of being conscious or awake.
  • 26
  • She lost consciousness after she fell and hit her head.
  • 27
  • Your "consciousness" also includes your mind and thoughts.
